The districts with a special importance for the national economy and for the history and culture of the state can obtain the status of ethnic-cultural district. An initiative to this effect was approved by the Parliament’s commission on social protection, health and family on February 11, IPN reports.
Bill author Oleg Reidman gave as example Taraclia district, which is a renowned center of the Bulgarians in Moldova.
According to the lawmaker, currently only the villages and towns can be granted the status of historical or cultural center. The districts cannot and this is discrimination.
