Some of the automated “cash-in” terminals do not accept new-type banknotes that were put into circulation by the National Bank of Moldova in October 2015. A part of these do not post information about the non-acceptance of such bills. As some of the terminals do not return the “swallowed” bills if the transaction is not completed, the person who initiated this and does not have sufficient banknotes of the old model will be unable to recover the money if only after contacting the operator and following their recommendations.
In a response to an inquiry made by IPN News Agency, the central bank says it recommended the nonbanking payment service providers to adjust the terminals before the issuing of the new banknotes. Some of the providers adjusted the equipment and the modernized banknotes are accepted, while others are in the process of adjustment. Some of the providers still post warnings at terminals about the temporary technical problems related to the acceptance of new bills.
The National Bank of Moldova said it didn’t set a deadline for adjusting the equipment to the new banknotes and is now analyzing the problem so as to formulate new regulations if need be.
On October 12, 2015, the central bank put into circulation on Moldova’s territory modernized bills with the nominal value of 1 leu, 10 lei, 20 lei, 50 lei, 100 lei, 200 lei and 500 lei.
