Representatives of the parties running in the November 28 early legislative elections Friday came together for a roundtable meeting at the Human Rights Protection Center to discuss the reforms needed to improve the situation of children in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Ion Dron, the representative of the Republican Party, stressed the necessity of implementing a designing – carrying out –monitoring axis. “Until we do not build such an axis, all the actions will remain sporadic,” said the jurist. The Republican Party proposes introducing the post of representative for children’s rights under the Presidential Office and the Government, who will be directly responsible for the formulation and promotion of policies on child education.
‘Today’s child is the country’s tomorrow,” Ion Dron said, stressing the Republican Party will work out a strategy for combating juvenile delinquency and creating specialized judicial bodies for examining criminal and administrative cases involving children.
Valentina Serpu, the representative of the Christian-Democratic People’s Party, spoke about the problems of migration, natality and allowances that should be increased for families with many children and with disabled children. According to Valentina Serpu, the food norms for children in institutions must be adjusted, while the gymnasiums outfitted.
The representative of the Social Democratic Party Tatiana Nita underlined that the problems in education derive from such economic problems as the lack of workplaces for parents, the low childbirth allowances, the lack of places at kindergartens. The party’s electoral platform envisions provision of assistance to the deprived families with small children, including by involving the NGOs.
Independent candidate Valeriu Plesca said the fact that representatives of most of the ruling parties do not attend the roundtable meeting shows how they treat children’s problems. He criticized the election contenders for the declarative content of the proposals formulated in the electoral programs, saying each sector should be discussed separately.
The representative of the Moldova Noastra Alliance Angela Ganea said a year in power is a too short term to achieve remarkable results, but work is done to deinstitutionalize the children and place them in families.
