A meeting was held in Chisinau to remember the soldiers killed in the Afghan war. The participants observed a moment’s silence and laid flowers at the Memorial Complex “Holy Memory to Sons of Motherland”, IPN reports.
The event involved the military and civil personnel of all the military garrisons, officials, members of the command body, war veterans and members of families of soldiers killed in battle.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Vladimir Vitiuc in his speech said the war left a huge pain in the hearts of those who experienced those moments of horror and of the members of the families of those who died in battle. The veterans of the Afghan war are an example of courage and patriotism.
Commemoration events were also staged in other parts of the country. On February 15 it is 29 years of the pullout of the troops from Afghanistan. The war that lasted for ten years involved about 12,000 Moldovans. Of these, 301 died on the battlefield, while 700 were hurt.
