Three conscript soldiers were sentenced to three, six and, respectively, seven years in prison for theft and desertion, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, on July 10, 2014, the soldiers illegally left their military unit. Being under the influence of alcohol outside the military unit, they ill-treated a man with whom they got acquainted that day and drank alcoholic beverages together with him.

The soldiers stole money and belongings to the value of over 4,000 lei from the man and abandoned him on a road near Hancesti town. Shortly afterward, the victim was found and transported to the hospital, while the deserters were arrested and brought to justice. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
