Soldier shots himself with army gun

A contract soldier of the National Army serving in the Joint Peacekeeping Forces was found dead in the afternoon of February 6. He allegedly shot himself while on duty, IPN reports, quoting the Ministry of Defense.

The incident happened at the post in Gura Bâcului. A team of forensic experts examined the scene. The Ministry of Defense expressed its profound regret at the tragic accident and offered condolences to the grieving family.

The Joint Peacekeeping Forces are situated in the Security Zone where a military conflict between the constitutional forces and the paramilitary forces of the secessionist regime, supported by the 14th Army of the Russian Federation, occurred 40 years ago. The Joint Peacekeeping Forces are managed by the Joint Control Commission and consist of military contingents of the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation and the Transnistrian region.
