The first solar thermal collectors have been set up at the Chisinau Wastewater Treatment Station within a pilot project to heat water for hygienic necessities. According to the administration of SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC), heat consumption will be thus reduced, IPN reports.

In a press release, ACC says the solar collectors are ecological and in time will prove their efficiency. All the costs associated with the installation of panels are covered by the water supplier.

Afterward, the company plans to install such panels at the production base, at water networks exploitation sectors, at pumping stations and other managed subdivisions. The company’s specialists chose evacuated-tube solar collectors because these are broadly used and are more efficient than the flat-plate collectors, being exploited for over 20 years.

According to ACC, the prices of solar collectors have become more accessible owing to the large production series and technological progress. They are used especially in systems where a higher temperature is needed or in complex installations that generate both hot water and thermal energy for heating areas.

The solar thermal collectors collect heat by absorbing sunlight. These are widely used in Germany, Canada, the UK and China owing to their higher efficiency. Flat-plate and evacuated-tube solar collectors are used to collect heat for space heating, domestic hot water or cooling with an absorption chiller.
