Worldwide famous artist and singer Sofia Rotaru will have her “Villa Sofia” situated close to the quay in Yalta, Crimea, confiscated, gordonua.com reported, making reference to one of the promoters of separatism in Ukraine, Oleg Tsarev.

The former Ukrainian Rada deputy recently informed through his Telegram channel that the so-called State Council of Crimea decided to “nationalize” the architectural monument of local importance in Yalta, which had been owned by Ukrainian singer Sofia Rotaru.

Tsarev noted that Rotaru was dispossessed of this mansion after on Saint Nicholas Day she published a postcard on which Saint Nicholas stays on the knees of a Ukrainian soldier.

“I think there is no doubt who this artist took sides with,” stated Oleg Tsarev.

“Sofia Rotaru paid the equivalent of US$500 for this mansion for using it stage musical activities for children there. But she didn’t use it for the declared purpose. Now she sells this and in spring asked 2.5 billion rubles (approximately €27.6 million) for it.”

Sofia Rotaru, who was born in Marshintsy, one of the Romanian speaking villages of Novoselytskyi Raion in Ukraine’s Chernovtsy, started her musical career after she graduated from the Chisinau State Conservatory. In 1986, she was the first singer who was conferred the title “People’s Artist of the USSR”. In 2000, she was named Singer of the 20th Century. Sofia Rotaru has Ukrainian nationality and is a citizen of honor of Crimea and Yalta.
