The Party of Socialists (PSRM), in a meeting of the party’s executive committee, decided to support independent candidate Irina Vlah in the elections for the Governor (Bashkan) of Gagauzia. The leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon told a news conference that an independent candidate will represent all the residents of Gagauzia, IPN reports.
According to Igor Dodon, the PSRM had discussions with all the candidates for the post of Bashkan and understood that Irina Vlah’s views correspond to the options of the Socialists. Therefore, it was decided to support her.
In the same news conference, Irina Vlah said the discussion she had with the executive committee of the PSRM was constructive and she thanked the Socialists for their support. She noted that the future Bashkan of Gagauzia should be an independent person who will not depend on one party or another.
The head of the Socialist parliamentary group Zinaida Greceanyi added that she worked for many years together with Irina Vlah, who is able to create a team of specialists who will work for the benefit of Gagauzia as part of Moldova.
The elections for the Governor of Gagauzia will take place on March 22. Nine candidates have been so far registered as election runners.
