The MPs of the Party of Socialists propose supplementing Article 48 of the Constitution so that besides the sentence “The family is established by a freely agreed marriage between a man and a woman”, it also stipulates a ban on registering same-sex marriages and also that the parents of a child are the mother and the father, IPN reports.

The legislative proposal was put forward in connection with the upcoming Family Day and is aimed at strengthening the institution of the family. In a news conference, MP Vasile Bolea expressed his concern about the fact that particular forces have tried to prevent the promotion of the traditional values the past few years. “Different movements that encroach on the traditional values, such as the traditional family, different marches and propagation of nontraditional values have intensified the past few years,” stated the MP.

“At legislative level, the Constitution provides that the family is established based on a relationship between a man and a woman. At the same time, we consider these provisions of the Constitution should be improved,” said Vasile Bolea, noting Article 48 of the Constitution should also ban the registration of marriages between persons of the same sex and should provide that the parents of a child are the mother and the father.

Until the end of this day, the Socialists intend to collect the numbers of signatures needed for the proposal to be registered. They are also preparing a strategy for developing the family.

Socialist MP Vladimir Odnostalco noted that the legislative proposal also stipulates punishments for the promotion of nontraditional values. The Socialists will demand that the Republic of Moldova should not ratify the Istanbul Convention as they consider “this lobbies for things that destroy the family values.”
