The MPs of the Block of Communists and Socialists (BCS) asked that Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco should be questioned in Parliament after alleged Telegram conversations of the minister were disseminated in the public sphere. The minister dismissed them as false. In Parliament, the Socialists demanded that Sergiu Litvinenco should resign or they will propose a no-confidence motion against him, IPN reports.
“We cannot ignore yesterday’s events related to Mister Minister Litvinenco. We consider he should be questioned in Parliament so that he provides explanations as the developments affect the justice sector reform, the rule of law and the public contests to fill important posts in the judicial system and the prosecution service. Or else, the resignation of honor is the most opportune solution so as not to compromise the justice sector reform. We therefore call on Mister Litvinenco to withdraw as it is better to do so sometimes. If he does not accept, the BCS group will put forward a simple motion,” said Socialist MP Vlad Batrîncea, Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
The proposal to question the minister of justice was yet short of votes.
Alleged Telegram conversations of the minister of justice with a number of persons were circulated on November 9. Litvinenco immediately reacted, saying the so-called “discussions” are false and were disseminated with the aim of distracting public attention from the real problems faced by criminal groupings in Moldova and from their tires with foreign services. “I remind you that this is not the first time the thieves made use of the dirtiest lies and setups and we recently launched an investigation in this regard. They now hacked Telegram accounts of the President and members of the Government for posting fabricated lies,” said the minister.
