The Party of Socialists (PSRM) made known the content of the Statehood Test that was given to the President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti. It contains ten points and, according to the PSRM, Nicolae Timofti pledged to respect all of them, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Nicolae Timofti was asked to defend the territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of the Moldovan state. The second point concerns the observance of the country’s status of neutrality and the prevention of dispatching of foreign troops and munitions on Moldova’s territory.
The third point requires obeying the constitutional norms and keeping intact all the provisions of the Constitution. The fourth point envisions maintaining the status of member of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Under the fifth point, the head of state is to maintain a balance in the foreign political relations with the East and the West. The sixth point refers to the maintaining and respecting of the official status of the Moldovan language as official language.
Another commitment is to establish civic peace in the country by uniting the Moldovan people and observing the rights of the ethnic minorities. The eighth point requires protecting the national traditions and moral values by respecting the laic status of Moldova.
The ninth point envisions the keeping of the own political neutrality as head of state, non-joining of a party and non-participation in elections under party lists, promotion of political pluralism and acting as an arbitrator in the relations between the main powers (legislative, executive and judicial) and with other political players of Moldova. The last point demands holding only Moldovan nationality.
Nicolae Timofti was fielded for the presidency by the Alliance for European Integration. He was elected President on March 16, including by the votes of the three MPs of the group of Socialists. Before the elections, the leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon said they will vote for the presidential candidate if he meets three conditions – is apolitical, is supported by at least 58 lawmakers and passes the Statehood Test.
