Socialist lawmakers haven’t shown up for a discussion that MPs of the ACUM parliamentary group hoped to have today. The bloc’s members told reporters afterwards the no-show meant the PSRM wasn’t “ready to discuss seriously”. However, ACUM hopes the Socialists can change their mind, suggesting they could do something productive instead of just sitting back while Parliament dissolves in two months.

“Sadly, the PSRM have demonstrated they aren’t ready to discuss seriously about what can be done by means of such an important institution like Parliament of Moldova”, MP Mihai Popșoi (ACUM/PAS) told reporters.

Popșoi said ACUM had hoped to discuss today the election of Parliament leadership, the bloc’s proposed “de-oligarchization package”, and some proposals of the Socialists, in particular social ones.

“We wanted to communicate at this meeting that Andrei Năstase isn’t all about occupying the Speaker’s post”, said MP Alexandru Slusari (ACUM/DA), adding: “ACUM needs this position for a brief period in order to make sure the de-oligarchization bills are introduced in the order of the day, are debated and put up for a vote”. According to Slusari, Năstase would resign once this is accomplished.

“To the last day, the bloc ACUM will remain eager to proceed with this de-oligarchization plan. ACUM is ready (...) to discuss legislative proposals, to see how we can resume Parliament’s sitting and overcome this arbitrary shutdown, and to find the best solution. However, the (Socialists’) proposal to create a coalition to last for four years, with portfolio allocation and all, is of course a red line for us that we will not cross. The ball is now in the Socialists’ court”, stated Slusari.

The Party of Socialists hasn’t commented yet.
