The Constitutional Court, by its January 12 decision whereby it declared the December 16 presidential elections unconstitutional, confirmed the political irresponsibility of the country’s administration, reads a statement issued by the Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM).
“The Acting President, who was to be the guarantor of the Constitution and was obliged to make sure that there will not be contradictory situations, preferred to focus on the ‘securing of votes’ so as to be certain that he will be voted by the lawmakers of the AEI,” says the statement issued by the Socialists, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
According to the PSRM, the procedure for electing the head of state was again compromised. The political crisis is perpetuated and the political power in general is discredited. “Moreover, we presume that these scenarios were planned and implemented in order to make sure that the current leaders of the AEI remain in power as long as possible,” says the statement.
The Party of Socialists considers that in such conditions Acting President and Speaker Marian Lupu should resign from both of the posts. “Such an Acting President does not have credibility. A new management of Parliament must be elected, which should resume the procedure for electing the head of state as soon as possible. There should be formed a new parliamentary majority that will not be hostage of ‘secret agreements’ and will serve the people’s interests, not clan interests,” says the PSRM.
