The Socialist councilors decided to boycott the May 25 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), in protest at the fact that over 140 land-related issues were included in the agenda. They consider that attempts are being made to appropriate municipal property, IPN reports.

The Socialist group’s head Ion Ceban in a press briefing said that what is happening on the CMC is a farce and defiance of the people’s will. The Socialists have a categorical position in what is related to the municipal property. All the matters of a cadastral character, like the sale and leasing of land, should be decided by public bidding contests, while the money should be collected into the budget.

Ion Ceban noted there are more important issues that should be disused by the CMC, including the updating of the urban design plan, approval of zonal plans and regulations that stay on shelves and gather dust and of the composition of contest commissions.

In another development, the Socialist councilor said that about 55,000 signatures in favor of the referendum on the dismissal of Dorin Chirtoaca from the post of mayor of Chisinau have been collected by the evening of May 24. He accused the mayor of not coming to work, of not holding the ordinary Monday meeting of officials of Chisinau services on May 22 and of naming persons to posts in a non-transparent way, like the recent appointment of Sergiu Borozan as head of the Chisinau General Division of Architecture, Urbanism and Land Relations.
