Socialist MPs, together with activists of the Young Guard blocked the road allowing access to the country, at the Sculeni customs post, and checked the documents of U.S. soldiers and military vehicles that come to Moldova to take part in military drills and in the exhibition that is to be mounted in central Chisinau on May 9, IPN reports.

According to the Party of Socialists, the U.S. soldiers were met by Socialists with Saint Gheorghe Ribbons and with placards with the words “Stop – NATO”, “Moldova does not need NATO”. “The Socialists are categorically against such events that defy the Constitution and common sense. Moldova is a neutral state and the presence of the NATO military contingents in Moldova is an attack on the sovereignty and neutrality of our country. We will not allow the NATO military units to march on the streets and in the capital city of our country,” said Socialist MP Ghenadie Mitriuc.

The leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said the activists had been on guard at the Sculeni customs post during 24 hours, waiting for the NATO soldiers and military vehicles to come.

“The first column of military vehicle entered this morning. By the effort of the Socialist MPs and several dozen activists, we managed to block this for several hours. But the road was unblocked with the support of the police, including of a group with special duties. The military vehicles followed to way to Negresti. This way, the Ministry of the Interior of Moldova became an accomplice of the country’s occupation by foreign military troops and of the defiance of the constitutional principle of neutrality. We must do everything possible to hamper the access of the military machinery to the Great National Assembly Square on May 9. The Socialists will block the access ways to the capital city so as to foil these intentions,” stated Igor Dodon.

The Socialists call on all the political and public forces of good faith to join together to defend the sovereignty and neutrality of Moldova.

The U.S. soldiers and military vehicles are to take part in an exhibition that will be staged in the central square of Chisinau on May 9.
