A draft decision to set up a special commission for selecting candidates for the post of ombudsman was registered in Parliament. The commission is to adopt the regulations for holding the public contest, IPN reports.
The decision was drafted by a group of Socialist MPs. According to them, the special commission should consist of members of the legal commission for appointments and immunities, namely MPs Vasile Bolea, Eugen Nikiforchuk, Denis Ulanov and Dinu Plîngău, and of the commission for human rights and interethnic relations, namely MPs Doina Gherman, Nicolae Pascaru and Igor Vremea.
Within 30 days, the special commission will present the candidates for ombudsman to Parliament.
The post of ombudsman fell vacant after Mihail Cotorobai died at the start of this January. Later, Parliament decided that the post will be held on an interim basis by ombudswoman for children’s rights Maia Bănărescu.
