Chisinau councilors of the Party of Socialists demand that Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, acting director of the Central Market Veaceslav Balan and head of Centru district Oleg Poiata should resign because they are the first to blame for the blast that occurred in a café in central Chisinau on January 9, IPN reports.

Councilor Petru Burduja told a news conference that the responsibility for the explosion is borne not only by the café’s managers, but also by the authorities that issued the license to them and were to monitor the activity of the economic entity.  “It is a proof of the fact that the current executive system of the City Hall is not ready to cope with such rather dangerous situations for our society. The given economic entity was issued with an authorization allowing it to run the café. The firefighters also issued an authorization for using that stove,” he stated.

According to the Socialists, the explosion is a direct consequence of the irresponsibility and negligence generated by the policy pursued by the local administration of Chisinau, protectionism and hushing up of the illegalities and acts of appropriation committed at municipal companies. The Socialist councilors call on Dorin Chirtoaca to assume responsibility for the inefficient administration of the affairs in Chisinau and to voluntarily resign. Otherwise, they will initiate the procedure for dismissing him.

The councilors also said that they will set up a commission of inquiry inside the Municipal Council to thoroughly investigate the blast so that all those to blame for it are penalized.

About 20 persons suffered burns when a gas cylinder exploded in a café near the Central Market of Chisinau on January 9. Thirteen persons remain hospitalized. Three of the patients with serious burns were taken to Bucharest for treatment.
