The councilors of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) ask immediately convening an extraordinary meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC). These demand that the agenda should include the dismissal of particular functionaries and the stopping of all the construction works in Chisinau, IPN reports.
Councilor Ion Ceban told a news conference that the members of the Socialist faction in the CMC today, September 22, will submit an application to the Chisinau City Hall by which they will ask the mayor to convene the meeting. Otherwise, they will convoke the Council with the support of one third of the councilors.
Ion Ceban said the first issue on the agenda must be the dismissal of all the City Hall functionaries, division heads and enterprise managers who were employed based not on a contest, but on relations, nepotism, etc. According to him, the functionaries must be selected at a public contest.
Among other agenda items should be the institution of a moratorium on all the construction woks performed in Chisinau and launching of inquiries into the dubious cases, the public procurement process, the rise in tariffs, etc.
After the June 14 local elections, the PSRM won 19 seats in the CMC, the Liberal Party –17 seats, the Electoral Bloc “European People’s Platform of Moldova – Iurie Leanca” – six seats, the “Our Party” – three seats, the Party of Communists – three seats, the Liberal Democratic Party – two seats, while the Democratic Party – one seat. At the start of September, the Liberal, Liberal-Democratic and Democratic councilors and the councilors of the Electoral Bloc “European People’s Platform of Moldova – Iurie Leanca” signed an agreement to form a pro-European coalition.
