The Socialist group on the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) demands that Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca should convene a special meeting of the Council for April 12 to approve the 2017 municipal budget in the final reading, IPN reports.
In a news conference, Chisinau councilor Ion Ceban said Dorin Chirtoaca intentionally delays the approval of the budget in the final reading so as to fix the bidding contests together with his allies. “We demand special meetings, but they work on public procurement so that the tender contests are won by their allies. We prepared tens of amendments to the draft budget that are in the interests of the citizens. The proposals are social, investment in character, designed for the suburbs,” he stated.
In another development, Ion Ceban said the Socialist group challenged in court the paid parking lots project because the Liberal mayor Dorin Chirtoaca is trying to obtain personal gains by this initiative. The Austrian firm chosen to manage the parking lots is from an offshore area and was registered four months before the launch of the project, while the phone number indicated in the Contact Us section of its website is not active.
The councilor also commented on the decision of the Chisinau Court based in Buiucani, which rejected the request to register the initiative group for collecting signatures for organizing a local referendum on the dismissal of the mayor of Chisinau. He said the court’s decision will be appealed and the process of collecting signatures will be soon launched.
