The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 5.2% in the second quarter of this year. The Socialists consider the growth is due to the re-export of goods and to remittances, while the Democrats say this was possible owing to the rise in production, IPN reports.
Democratic MP Sergiu Sârbu said a substantial rise was witnessed in the production sector in agriculture. The large volume of services with high value added was another factor that influenced the GDP growth. “I speak here about the IT sector that has grown a lot during the past few years. A number of IT parks were opened and the volume of these services, of exported software increased a lot, as did the number of jobs in this area,” the politician stated in the talk show “Important” on TVC21 channel. He noted that the GDP growth was also fueled by the larger amounts collected by the fiscal and customs services as taxes.
Socialist MP Grigore Novac said the GDP grew owing to the re-export of goods and to the remittances of the hundreds of thousands of Moldovans who work abroad, not to investments. “The investments in 2008-2009 totaled about US$700 million on average a year, but now these investments decreased dramatically due to the lack of trust in justice and of shortage of skilled labor force,” he stated.
