The Group of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament welcomes the creation of the Alliance for European Integration in Moldova, the vice-chairman of the group, Adrian Severin, said in a statement, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “We welcome the news that the PLDM, PL, PDM and AMN – parties represented in the Moldovan parliament – have formed a government coalition which is, explicitly, aimed at achieving prosperity and democracy in the Republic of Moldova as well as the integration of this country into the European Union”, the statement says. According to Severin, such a coalition can properly reflect the diversity of opinions of the Moldova citizens and can represent a large political base for the legitimization of the new government. “It is, at the same time, obvious that without the EU's support and without integration into the EU, the Moldovan society cannot reach the ideals of liberty, security, prosperity and democracy”, the MEP added. The group of Socialists and Democrats in the European legislative body state that the internal and external challenges facing Moldova require unity of the Moldovan political forces. They encourage the political forces to identify optimal solutions to supplement the government coalition with a proper formula for the election of the Moldovan president. The PLDM, PL, PDM and AMN hold together 53 seats and are 8 votes short of the minimal number required to elect a president.
