The National Council (NC) of the Social Democrat Party (PSDM) said in a press statement it has unanimously approved the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the Social Democracy Party (PDS) and the Centrist Union (UCM), as well as the Joint Declaration of these parties. The PSDM National Council empowered its central bureau to draft in concert with PDS and UCM representatives a plan for joint activities, so as to fulfil the signed Agreement and to achieve the fusion of these parties. The NC members share the belief that by founding a single Social-Democrat Party, a strong social-democrat pole will arise in the country, which will lead to a massive representation of its electorate in the future parliament and will promote social-democrat values in the society. According to the press statement, the NC meeting of June 30 discussed the results registered by PSDM in the 3 June local elections and the issue of strengthening social-democrat forces in Moldova. Following an extensive analysis of the polls, the NC members decided to declare the results as satisfactory. Two weeks ago, the leaders of the 3 parties have said they will merge by the 2009 parliamentary elections. Until then, the local elective officials representing the three parties will form alliances in the local administration bodies at all levels, including in the Chisinau City Council.
