The Social-Democratic Party called on President Nicolae Timofti to request the Employers and Trade Unions Confederations of Moldova to propose an apolitical candidate for premiership, who should be subject to lustration, anticorruption and professional integrity tests, IPN reports.

The proposal was submitted in a news conference given by the leader of the Centrist Union of Moldova Mihai Petrache and the leader of the Social Democratic Party Victor Shelin, who form part of the Platform. According to these, the head of state, after additionally testing the professional integrity, should mandatorily nominate the given candidate for Prime Minister.

“We urge the President to hold consultations with the employers and trade unions and to designate a candidate for premiership, to announce that this is his last order and to resign,” stated Victor Shelin.

According to the members of the Platform, the Prime Minister designate will select candidates for Cabinet member according to such criteria as competence and professional meritocracy. This will also have to ask for the appraisal and proposals of the Employers and Trade Unions Confederations concerning the new Government program.

According to Mihai Petrache, such a proposal was formulated because the political situation in Moldova is uncertain and the political parties do not know want they want. “Any uncontrolled confrontation, determined only by the political whims of the parties, can lead to direct interference on the part of the East and the West and this could endanger Moldova’s existence as an independent state,” he stated.

The Social-Democratic Party considers that only a politically unaffiliated Premier and a governmental team constituted according to competence, honesty, meritocracy and responsibility criteria can enjoy broad social and political support, including on the part of civil society and Moldova’s development partners.
