SocDems unveil election platform

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Moldova was the first to start talks on its election platform, making it publicly known at the eleventh SDP Congress, which took place on April 19 in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The over one thousand delegate assembly declared that the Social Democrats were ready to make effort to improve the state of the people living in Moldova, giving assurances that they had solutions to all long-lasting and pressing problems faced by the Moldovan society society.
According to the presented platform, the SDP vows to pay decent pensions and wages, raising the monthly average salary to 450 euros and creating 80,000 new jobs each year.
On the same optimistic note, the SDP leaders promise that if they manage to win the elections things will be changed so that heath care services become equally accessible to everyone, while 80 percent of the cost of the basic and most frequently used medicines will be compensated.
In addition, the Social Democrats declare they will invest more in Moldova’s young generation, will support the domestic producers, will pay increased to the development of such sectors as IT, agriculture, industry and trade, and will cut down the number of inspection personnel.
According to SDP president Dumitru Braghis, the present congress is a proof of political maturity of the party, which is able to reinforce Moldova’s pro-European democratic left.
“Unity alone is able to give strength to our team in the upcoming political battle”, stated Dumitru Braghis.
On 7 June 2007, three political parties built on the social democratic doctrine – the Social Democracy Party, the Social Democratic Party, and the Centrist Union – signed a cooperation agreement with the intention to form a strong social democratic flank in Moldova. Later in December, the Social Democracy Party and the Social Democratic Party merged into one, taking the name of the latter.
The SDP Congress concluded with a concert given by the artists of the National Opera. The event was also attended by the diplomatic corps accredited in Moldova.
