The snow that fell during the last 24 hours didn’t affect traffic on the national roads, head of the operative service of the State Road Administration Sergiu Capatana has told IPN. According to him, antiskid measures were taken on the national roads.

He noted that all the national roads are passable. “During the night, 723 tonnes of antiskid material were spread on all the national roads. Snow fell only in the northern and central districts. Thus, intervention measures in southern Moldova weren’t required,” said Sergiu Capatana.

A number of 56 vehicles and 119 road workers were involved in the snow removal and antiskid material spreading works last night. When the temperatures fall below 0 degrees Celsius, sand is spread on the most dangerous road sections, at turns and on inclines. These sections are also monitored nonstop. If heavy trucks move with difficulty, tow trucks help them pass through the dangerous sections. Such a towing point was set up in Troita Noua village of Anenii Noi district.

Snow was forecast to fall in the central and southern regions of the country during the next few days. In the northern districts, it will start to snow next Wednesday. Tomorrow, January 3, and next Monday the temperatures will decrease to -17 degrees Celsius at night and -10 degrees Celsius during the day.
