The Department of Penitentiary Institutions completed the inquiry into the detention conditions opened following a complaint submitted by the lawyers of the accused Vlad Filat and transferred the smoking detainee to another cell, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Department says that no ventilation-related irregularities were identified there as the given cell is ventilated regularly, as the other cells are. It is making effort to ensure the rights of all the prisoners are observed in accordance with the law and to find the best solutions to the highlighted problems, despite the shortage of funds for improving the detention conditions.
Earlier, Vlad Filat’s lawyers accused the Department of violating the politician’s rights by holding him in a cell without ventilation, where a roommate smokes intensely.
