Sheriff Tiraspol plays the first-leg match of the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League against Slovakia’s champion Slovan Bratislava away this evening, IPN reports.
If Sheriff eliminates Slovan, it will go through the playoffs of Champions League and will secure at least presence in the Europa League groups. The objective of the Tiraspol team is to qualify for the groups of the UEFA Champions League, which is the most important interclub competition in the world.
“Our chances are 50:50. It is a very important match for us,” Sheriff coach Veaceslav Rusnac told a news conference before the game.
“Sheriff has experience of playing in the European cups, but we are not afraid of them. Everything is in our hands,” said Slovan coach Frantisek Straka.
The encounter between Slovan and Sheriff starts at 9:15pm and will be refereed by Stephan Studer of Switzerland. The return game takes place in Tiraspol on August 6.
