Vehicle traffic across the country has become even more complicated as sleet started to fall this morning, adding to the thick layer of snow that formed on the roads in recent days. Traffic is at a crawl on a number of national roads and the number of accidents is increasing because of reckless driving, Ion Roscovanu, senior inspector at the Traffic Police Department, has told Info-Prim Neo.
“The traffic police recommend drivers to avoid trips in this period, except for emergencies”, says Roscovanu. He also advised extreme cautiousness while driving, and keeping a safe distance between cars, the disrespect of which is responsible for most of the accidents during sleet.
At the same time, parents are urged not to let children ride sleds near roadways.
Ion Roscovanu went on to add that sleet showers are expected to continue over the next few days, which will lead to glazed roads.
42 road accidents were registered on Saturday on the Moldovan roads, with 3 more in the first hours of Sunday. Fortunately, no injured or dead were recorded.
Over 400 workers are engaged in road clearing works across the country.
