Six villages elected their mayors

The villages Tipala and Ulmu of Ialoveni district and Racovat of Soroca district will be headed by Democratic mayors. Pervomaisc village of Causeni district will be managed by a Socialist mayor, while Mereni, Anenii Noi by a Liberal one. An independent mayor was chosen in Tvardita town of Taraclia district. These are the preliminary results of the new local elections held in seven settlements on May 14. A second round of mayoral elections will be held in Hirova village of Calarasi district as none of the candidates there polled more than half of the vote, IPN reports.

According to the Central Election Commission, the elections in Pervomaisc village of Causeni district were won by Valeri Curuci, while in Tipala, Ialoveni by Ilie Castravet. Veaceslav Druceanu was elected mayor in Ulmu, Ialoveni. Ion Borozan won the elections in Racovat, Soroca, while Ludmila Colesnic in Mereni, Anenii Noi. Independent candidate Zhari Parmacli emerged victorious in Tvardita, Taraclia.

A number of 26 candidates ran for mayor in the seven settlements. Two were independents, while 24 represented political parties.
