With a grant of US$100,000, plus an own contribution of 725,000 lei, six settlements of Briceni district will set up an intercommunity company for providing public utilities. “Areas will be set up for storing garbage. In winter, the roads will be cleared of snow. We will purchase the necessary equipment. It is an important investment, especially when the winters are harsh,” Mayor of Lipcani town Eugen Dumenko has told IPN.
Alongside Lipcani, the project involves Criva, Drepcauti, Hlina, Sirauti and Slobozia-Sirauti, which have a population of about 14,000 together.
Mayor Eugen Dumenco said the project is welcome as the villages in Moldova have never had intercommunity companies.
The initiative is supported by the Joint Integrated Local Development Program, which provided grants of US$100,000 for ten projects of the kind.
