Six presidential advisers, including Ion Chicu, are part of the new government, which was invested today, November 14. Among the members of the cabinet of ministers there is also a minister from the government led by Maia Sandu, as well as former Secretaries of State from the executive led by Pavel Filip. Of the nine ministers, only one is a woman.
Between 2006 and 2008, Prime Minister Ion Chicu held the position of deputy minister of finance and was a counselor on economic and foreign policy issues for Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanîi between 2008 and 2009. In January 2018, he became secretary general at the Ministry of Finance and from December 2018 to June 2019, he served as minister. From July 2019 until the investment in office of the government, has served as a presidential adviser.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Aureliu Ciocoi, before his appointment as minister, he was a presidential adviser in the field of foreign policy. The new minister was employed in several positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1996 and 2010. In 2010 he was appointed ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Germany, and subsequently was ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark, cumulatively, while residing in Berlin. He was also an ambassador to China.
Another presidential adviser, Victor Gaiciuc, was appointed defense minister. Gaiciuc also held the position of minister of defense in the Tarlev government. In 2005 he was appointed ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and representative of the Republic of Moldova to NATO. Later, he was appointed, cumulatively, as an ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, while residing in Brussels. After the elections of February 2019, he became MP on behalf of the Socialist Party, however, he resigned in order to become adviser to the head of state in the field of national defense and security and secretary on the Supreme Security Council.
The presidential adviser in the field of education, culture and research, Corneliu Popovici, is the new minister of education, culture and research. He is a doctor of philosophy and works as a university lecturer at the Academy of Public Administration under the president.
The Minister of Health, Labour and Social Protection, Viorica Dumbrăveanu, was also a presidential advisor, namely in the field of social development. Previously, Viorica Dumbrăveanu held the position of department head at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection. In 2017 she was deputy minister at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection, then secretary of state at the same ministry in the Filip government.
Ion Perju, presidential adviser in the field of agribusiness and public administration, became the minister of agriculture, regional development and environment in the new government. He was deputy minister of agriculture and food Industry, appointed in 2008 by decree signed by the then Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanîi.
Sergiu Pușcuța serves as deputy prime minister and minister of finance. Previously, he held twice, in two different periods, the position of head of the State Tax Service. Sergiu Pușcuța was also adviser to President Vladimir Voronin on financial issues.
Deputy prime minister for reintegration is Alexandru Flenchea, who previously held the position of head of the Office for Reintegration.
Anatol Usatîi was named minister of economy and infrastructure. He held the position of secretary of state in the same ministry during the Filip government. Previously, he was deputy minister of road transport and infrastructure.
The new Minister of Internal Affairs is Pavel Voicu, who held the position of minister of defense in the Sandu government. Previously, he led several police inspectorates at various times and held other positions in the police force.
The Minister of Justice is Fadei Nagacevschi, a lawyer by profession. He held the position of adviser to the Speaker of the Parliament and leader of the Socialist Party, Zinaida Greceanîi. He was also the lawyer of the party.
The governor of Gagauzia, Irina Vlah, is also part of the cabinet of ministers.
The new government was invested in office after the cabinet of ministers led by Maia Sandu was dismissed following the censure motion submitted by the Socialist Party on Tuesday, November 12. On Wednesday, the head of state, Igor Dodon, held consultations with the parliamentary groups and signed the decree appointing Ion Chicu to the position of prime minister by the end of the same day.
