Six of the nine judges of the Economic Court of Appeals that was liquidated within the judicial system reform were transferred to the Chisinau Court of Appeals, even if all the judges filed applications in this respect. The decision was taken in the March 27 meeting of the Supreme Council of Magistrates. The other three judges, among whom the court’s president, may be transferred to the courts of appeals in Balti, Comrat and Cahul, where there are vacancies, Info-Prim Neo reports. Economic Court of Appeals president Aureliu Kolenko did not want to talk to the press. “You will see what I will do,” he stated. Judges Valeriu Harmaniuc and Maria Postoiko weren’t transferred either. The latter is a member of the Communist parliamentary group and was suspended from post for the period of the term in office as an MP. Judge Boris Barca, one of the six judges transferred to the Chisinau Court of Appeals, said he expected such a decision and is glad that he will continue to work as a judge. Judge Maria Moraru, who was vice president of the Economic Court of Appeals, said that she would have resigned if she hadn’t been transferred to the court in Chisinau. The Economic Court of Appeals was liquidated after the legislative body on March 6 passed a bill on the transformation of the economic courts into commercial courts and the liquidation of the Economic Court of Appeals in final reading. The justice reform is a condition imposed by the European Union for signing the Visa Liberalization Agreement.
