Six persons with disabilities who were discharged from the psycho-neurological hospital of Bădiceni village of Soroca district moved to their home within the social service “Protected dwelling”. According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the dwellers will benefit from all the services existing in the community. They will visit the family doctor, will take part in events and festivities staged by the mayor’s office and will later become employed. The community social assistant will teach the persons with disabilities to be independent, to take care of the home and to interact with neighbors and villagers, IPN reports.

According to state secretary Viorica Dumbrăveanu, the service is very important for the persons with mental disabilities so that they live independently and are part of the community. “We set the goal of making sure that 50% of the persons with disabilities from residential institutions are integrated into society until 2023,” stated the official.

The social service in Bădiceni was created with the financial support of the Czech Development Agency. The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Moldova Zdeněk Krejčí said the residential care in time limited the possibility for the persons with disabilities to form part of society and to enjoy the same rights. This led to their isolation and stigmatization. “It is important that we could contribute to the improvement of the life of these persons and we will continue to do so,” stated the diplomat.

The residential system reform was launched in 2016 by developing community-based alternative social services. Eight dwellings that house 46 beneficiaries have been purchased with the financial resources of residential institutions so far.
