Six kindergartens of Chisinau, which are attended by about 2,300 children, will be thermally insulated in the framework of the project “Energy Efficiency and Thermal Rehabilitation of Buildings in the Municipality of Chisinau”. The contract with the contractor that won the first tender contest was signed on October 1. The thermal insulation works will last for a year, IPN reports.
In an online event held on the occasion, mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban said this is a long-awaited project as the children are its direct beneficiaries.
The project to the value of €25 million is financially supported by the EBRD (€10m loan), the EIB (€10m loan) and the E5P energy fund (€5m grant).
The head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s Office in Moldova Angela Sax said the pandemic underscored the importance of buildings in our lives. It is important that these be safe, stable and sustainable. They should be more energy efficient, while the kindergartens are a good step to start with.
“All these improvements and the better insulation of walls, roofs, windows and doors, strengthened stairs, repaired drainage and ventilation systems will contribute to more comfortable and safe kindergartens for children and their educators. The acknowledging of these measures will help us to grow future leaders of energy transition,” stated Angela Sax.
“The members states of the EU and the EU supports all the members and states of the Eastern Partnership even during the pandemic and supports the actions designed to consolidate these states,” said Gintautas Baranauskas, the representative of the EU Delegation in Chisinau, noting that an important step for the EaP, for the E5P fund and financing banks was taken today.
Ewa Manik, Principal Fund Manager responsible for E5P, stated that the energy fund offers a considerable subsidy of €5 million for supporting the project. “The E5P’s grant of €5 million will be spent on a wide range of energy resources so as to make the kindergartens warmer and more profitable for the municipality to maintain them,” noted Ewa Manik.
Sweden’s Ambassador in Chisinau Anna Lyberg said this is a very important energy efficiency project. “We are very glad that we can form part of the donors and make a contribution for increasing energy efficiency,” stated the diplomat.
This project is an excellent example of cooperation, said the representative of the EIB Adam Bruun. The bank aims to support the climate change and ecological restoration actions in 2021-2030, which it calls critical, with almost €1 trillion.
The thermal insulation works will be performed at kindergartens No.167, 146, 34, 112, 225, and 127 .
