The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) puts six commemorative coins into circulation as legal tender and for numismatic purposes on October 20. The coins will be sold through the authorized banks at a price that can be by at most 3% higher than that set by the NBM, IPN reports.

Two of the coins form part of the series “Personalities”. One is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the birth of the poet, novelist, dramatist and publicist Dumitru Matcovschi, while the second marks 100 years of the birth of Tamara Ciobanu, one of the most popular folk music singers in the second half of the 20th century. The coins are made from silver and have the nominal value of 100 lei and, respectively, 50 lei. They were issued in a number of 1,000 and 500 copies, weigh both 13 grams and are 28 millimeters in diameter.

The series “Alley of Classical Writers of the Public Garden “Stephan the Great”” is continued by two coins from gold and silver dedicated to Moldovan scholar, translator, traveler, geographer and diplomat from the 17th century Nicolae Milescu Spatarul. The first has the nominal value of 100 lei and weighs 7.8 grams. Its diameter is 24 millimeters. There were issued 300 such coins. The other one is worth 50 lei and was issued in 500 copies. It weighs 13 grams and is 28 millimeters in diameter.

The other two commemorative coins complement the series “The Red Book of the Republic of Moldova”. They represent the flossy ibis species and the forest peony species, which are on the verge of extinction. Both of the coins have identical characteristics. They are made from silver, have a nominal value of 50 lei, weigh 16.5 grams, have a diameter of 30 millimeters and were issued in 500 copies.

The commemorative coins packed in transparent containers and presentation boxes are accompanied by authenticity certificates in Romanian and English, signed by the governor of the central bank.
