“The situation of the carriers has improved as the working volumes return to the levels before the crisis, but the rate at which this happens is lower than we expected,” the head of the Union of Carriers and Road Workers Eugen Datsko told Info-Prim Neo.
“At the start of 2009, many carriers, especially freight ones, stooped work. But during the first three months of this year, they signed new contracts and the number of passenger transportation routes increased slightly,” Eugen Datsko said.
The Union of Carriers and Road Workers cooperates with the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure and other organizations in facilitating the obtaining of visas by drivers working on international routes.
“Any legislative or normative document examined by the Government and the Parliament is sent to us for inspection. The opinion of the Union of Carriers and Road Workers is taken account of. But the problem is that the documents are not implemented. No efficient control mechanism that would involve the civil society as well has been yet worked out,” Datsko said.
“The fact that the volume in the transportation sector increased by 3-4% compared with last year does not mean yet a sustainable improvement of the situation as we had practically no orders during the first months of 2009. Everything depends on the development of the economies in the countries of the region and in our country.”
In an interview given to Info-Prim Neo last yearend, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the recession will be overcome in the first quarter of 2010. Earlier this month, the Premier said the recession was overcome and there was achieved an insignificant economic growth, but the Government is not satisfied with this and will not stop here.
According to Vlad Filat, the economic growth planned for 2010 will be attained and even surpassed. “The projected economic growth of 3% will be only the start of a healthy growth in Moldova,” he said.
