Moldova’s resolve to come closer to the European Union is highly appreciated by the European officials, especially in the context of the situation in Ukraine, where the protests started after the administration suspended the association with the EU go on. The statement was made by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in a news conference in Chisinau, after a meeting with PM Iurie Leanca, IPN repots.
Donald Tusk visited Chisinau within his European tour. He will then go to Kiev to meet with Ukrainian political leaders. The official said the situation in Ukraine shows how important the political stability is for a country.
The Polish Premier said that Moldova comes more and more closer to the EU and hopes that the country will soon obtain a clear accession prospect. Poland also followed such a path and 82% of the country’s population now say that they are satisfied that they form part of the EU.
Donald Tusk also said that the EU insists on the protection of the rights of national minorities and the assertions that a European Moldova poses a threat to the minorities are erroneous.
Iurie Leanca said that the several hours during which his Polish counterpart had been in Chisinau enabled them to exchange very important opinions on the situation in the region. He underlined that nobody questions the fact that the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU will be signed in September, at the latest, and the authorities are working hard to prepare the people to maximally benefit from its provisions.
Donald Tusk will make a working visit to Chisinau in March.
