No signs of illicit enrichment or other risk factors have been found in relation to judge Dorel Musteață, who has recently been nominated for the Supreme Court of Justice, says the Security and Intelligence Service SIS.

This comes in response to a leaked SIS brief, sent in January 2020 to the Prosecutor General’s Office, which appeared to describe Musteață and fellow judge Nina Cernat as owners of multiple properties and assets.

According to the SIS, prosecutors didn’t investigate the claims, so it initiated an additional probe to check Musteață’s assets.

“As a result, it has been found that the primary information provided to the prosecution service does not meet the standards of evidence. Nor have signs of illicit enrichment or other factor risks been found in relation to the judge in question”, says the SIS.

The SIS leadership has now started an internal probe to find the reason why the two briefs diverge and investigate how the January 2020 brief was leaked to the media.

Dorel Musteață is a judge at the Anenii Noi District Court and currently acting president of the Superior Council of the Judiciary. He has been recently nominated by Parliament’s Legal Commission to become a member of the Supreme Court of Justice.
