SIS archives confirm facts denied by Communists

Documents from the archives of the Security and Information Service (SIS) show that anti-Communist organizations existed in Bessarabia, including of representatives of the national minorities that opposed the Soviet regime, Nina Postica, a member of the commission for studying and assessing the consequences of the Communist regime in Moldova, told Info-Prim Neo. Nina Postica studied especially the people's attitude to the Soviet regime of 1940-1950 and reached the conclusion that the native people were hostile towards the Soviets and that the regime was established by force of arms. However, the Communists deny this fact. “The archive documents show that only the minorities welcomed initially the coming of the Soviets in Bessarabia, but later they regretted it and created opposition organizations in Balti,” Nina Postica said. “After June 28, 1940, the organization “Maidahonda” worked at the High School “Vasile Lupu” in Orhei. It carried out different activities against the Soviets, from spreading of leaflets to diversions such as the hoisting of the tricolor on the NKVD (People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs) building in Orhei”. A number of documents reveal that the minorities changed their attitude towards the Soviets after they implemented a number of reforms such as nationalization and deportation. Youth and peasant organizations pleading for the union with Romania were set up at local level.
