“There is no place for political or other kinds of shows when the municipality of Chisinau faces so many problems,” acting mayor Silvia Radu told the press after the scheduled meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) that failed because a quorum was not present.
Only six councilors came to the meeting. Silvia Radu said such an attitude on the part of the councilors shows disrespect for the inhabitants of Chisinau as there are over 1,000 applications from private individuals alone, which underwent all internal procedures and are waiting to be approved by the CMC, IPN reports.
The acting mayor said that if the local councilors have a problem with her personally, they should have informed her that they would not attend the meeting. “I ask the councilors to place the interests of the citizens of Chisinau municipality above any political ambition or personal anger,” stated Silvia Radu.
She noted it is inadmissible for the councilors to come with delay or not to come to the meeting when they are paid from municipal funds and collect allowances that are ten times larger than the average salary of the employees of the City Hall. She called on the councilors to show discipline and to come to the next meeting informed about the draft decisions that are to be examined. “We do not have time and do not have much money either,” stated the acting mayor.
The councilors who came to the meeting represented the electoral bloc “European People’s Platform – Iurie Leanca”, the Party of Communists and the Liberal Democratic Party and included also independents.
