Silence on last day of campaign

“On the last race day, no electioneering or propaganda is allowed,” Info-Prim Neo learns from Iurie Ciocan, the secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC). He specifies citizens may be called on to go and vote. Under the regulation on covering the campaign for the July 29 elections, neither media are allowed to air/publish any election-related materials, except for the CEC's communique and information on voting procedures and unfolding. Iurie Ciocan says the ballot papers were sent to polling station in the morning of July 28. For the first time, elections in Moldova will be held on a Wednesday, which the Government called a day off. The decree dissolving the April-5-elected parliament and calling new elections was signed by president Vladimir Voronin on July 16. By the end of the campaign, electoral participants stated the campaign was short and very harsh. The poll results will be valid if 1/3 of voters turn out to ballot boxes. The CEC has accredited 488 international observers on behalf of 30 organizations (including 5 delegations from foreign electoral commission) and 2,672 local observers from 15 NGOs. The CEC has accredited 55 foreign journalists from 38 media.
