Diabetes is a diseases that imposes a different lifestyle. The first signs of alarm include the feeling of dehydration and excessive thirst, itching in different parts of the body and general weakness. This information was communicated to people who went to have the blood sugar level measured at the National Clinical Hospital in Chisinau free in connection with World Diabetes Day, IPN reports.

“Regardless of the moment when diabetes appears, there is no cure worldwide to fully get rid of diabetes. Living with diabetes is a different way of life,” said Victoria Damascan, resident doctor of the National Clinical Hospital’s Endocrinology Division.

The people formed lines to have the blood sugar level measured. A part of them, being already elderly, said they are able to do this once a year, on the recommendation of the family doctor, and now have one more chance of measuring glycaemia. After having the blood test, the persons were directed to endocrinologists who informed them about a healthy lifestyle and offered them models of healthy menus for keeping sugar level under control.

Over 90,000 persons suffer from diabetes in Moldova. One in two persons with diabetes hasn’t been diagnosed yet. The screening to detect type 2 diabetes is important for being able to intervene and prevent the appearance of complications such as loss of blood, loss of renal function, cardiovascular diseases, leg amputation, etc. Up to 70% of the cases of type 2 diabetes can be prevented or complications of the disease can be avoided by leading a healthy lifestyle.
