The group of signatories of the online petition “Stop sponsors of separatist regime” calls on the Moldovan authorities to refrain from taking part in anniversaries that are poisonous to the Republic of Moldova, to the memory of those killed in the Nistru war and to the feeling of citizen of this state because the separatist Transnistrian statehood is against the future of the Republic of Moldova. The call was made in a news conference at IPN.

One of the signatories of the petition, Igor Munteanu, director of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul”, said the signatories call on the authorities to denounce the false label assumed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Rogozin as the representative of the Russian Federation for Transnistria. “He has no right to be the representative for Transnistria because these districts are not a province of the Russian Federation. They are an inalienable territory that we consider a part of the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Igor Munteanu.

He also said it is very important for the Republic of Moldova to subscribe to the international sanctions imposed by the EU and the U.S. on Russian officials who detestably encouraged and supported separatism by economic, political and military means. “As long as we do not have the courage to say these things, no one, including the Russians, will treat the Moldovan authorities with dignity and sufficient seriousness,” said Igor Munteanu.

In the same connection, Oazu Nantoi, program director at the Institute of Public Policy, said that as a result of the rigging of the November 2016 elections, Moldova has not a President, but an agent of influence of the Russian Federation and a model of cynicism and political shame. Besides fighting against the Republic of Moldova in 1992, Rogozin also founded a party that is described by particular Russian officials as a party of Russian fascists.

“We came here to sensitize the public opinion and want to tell those who do not know the essence of the Transnistrian conflict that they should read the ECHR Decision of July 2004. The Russian Federation is an aggressor country that occupies a part of the constitutional territory of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Oazu Nantoi.

Former minister of defense Vitalie Marinuta said we experience difficult moments when those who fired at Moldovan soldiers are raised to the level of heroes by the authorities. “President Dodon is ready to shake their hands and to award them. I call on the people to sign the petition that we launched at the start of this week and to join in the organized events,” he stated.

“Viitorul” expert Ion Tabarta said unite in society is needed and the initiative of civil society needs the support of the authorities as the historical reality could be distorted. Some of the painful realities are already interpreted in the sense wanted and promoted by Tiraspol.

The signatories of the online petition “Stop sponsors of separatist regime”, which attracted over 120,000 public reactions, make a call for unity to all the members of Moldova’s Parliament, leaders of extraparliamentary parties, civil action groups and others to show solidarity in the request to the Government to ban Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin from entering Moldova and to declare him a persona non grata.
