Beginning in February next year, final consumers from all regions and all fixed and mobile telephony networks will call national numbers and codes from the “1” line without the “0” prefix, except for codes between 1600 and 1639, Info-Prim Neo reports. The National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technologies (ANRCETI) adopted the decision according to the National Numbering Plan (PNN) and to the recommendations of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) regarding the use of “1” line numbers, the implementation of new European services, the universal emergency number 112, social service numbers like “116xxx” and other public services. Beginning on September 1, public fixed and mobile telephony providers will have to start works of adjusting their networks in order to assure access to short national numbers and codes without the “0” prefix. Access to codes between 1600 and 1639 (IP telephony services) will be implemented until December 31, 2012. ANRCETI decided to withdraw for later use the following national short numbers: 117 (customer support), 119 (removal of faults in the network), 18xx (technical numbers for own networks) and local short numbers “02(A) 14xx” (information about public transport, medical services and others). The latter numbers will be replaced by local short numbers 14xxx and numbers from the 0814xxxxx block. Both categories will be for general information services: transportation, including taxis, trains and flights, or medical services. The numbers 117 and 119 will be replaced by numbers from the 118x(x) block, while 18xx will be replaced by local numbers from fixed telephony blocks. Codes from the “1” line are used for national access to networks and public services of electronic communications. National short numbers are used for providing nationwide services adjusted to European standards and non-communication services. Currently, customers of fixed and mobile telephony networks can call these numbers and codes only by using the “0” prefix.
