“Kroll is carrying out a political put-up job and it’s obvious that it’s trying to smear innocent people to cover up the actual beneficiaries,” said MP Denis Ulanov, Shor Party.

Addressing journalists, Ulanov said the Shor Party was never afraid of the report’s release, and even awaited it.

“Let me ask the general public. Is this what you waited for? What exactly did you see yesterday? Does this report reveal the actual beneficiary of the fraud? What we see is several findings collected on the Web, some lists that lack any importance, and the fact that Banca de Economii was already in trouble by 2012. Nothing new,” said Ulanov, who is also Ilan Shor’s lawyer.

The MP says that, according to the report’s preamble, the document does not contain information about the final recipients of the fraud money. “What does this tell us? Only what Ilan Shor has always said, since 2015 – that the companies and people involved in these transactions are not the beneficiaries of the fraud funds. Stop accusing my fellow Shor Party lawmakers of being involved in the one billion fraud. They did nothing wrong and didn’t steal a penny.”

Ulanov asked rhetorically why the report did not mention the 2008-2012 non-performing loans under Grigore Gacikevici’s management at Banca de Economii, or the names Filat and Greceanîi. “Why didn’t Kroll say anything about (then Education Minister) Maia Sandu’s vote during the (Cabinet) meeting of 7 November 2014, when it was decided to bail out the problematic banks? She surely knew the true reasons. How about we start talking about this?”

Ulanov went on to add that the Shor group will request Parliament to include Shor Party members on the inquiry commission investigating the fraud. “It wouldn’t be a surprise if the coalition votes against. They don’t want us to know anything about Kroll’s involvement in the cover-up.”

Ulanov promised that the Shor Party will soon present a more detailed analysis of the Kroll report, with the contribution of foreign experts.

When asked by reporters about Ilan Shor’s whereabouts, Denis Ulanov said the party’s leader would soon call a press conference in Chisinau to answer personally any questions about himself.
