The Shor Party proposed a bill to mandatorily insure monuments against fire and other disasters. MP Igor Himici said the bill provides for the insuring of all monuments, either these are under the management of the state, the local authorities, private companies or private individuals, IPN reports.

In a press briefing, MP Igor Himici said the bill was drafted in the wake of the fire that seriously destroyed the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich” on September 24 last year. “The fire at the Philharmonic was a tragedy for our country. This tragic case showed that our society can unite. Many people donated money for restoring the building, but the problem remained unsolved. We must understand that this measure – the collection of funds – does not offer any guarantee that a problem or another can be solved. Furthermore, it takes time and sometimes this time is very precious,” stated Igor Himici. He added that according to statistics, namely the fires are the most frequent cause of destruction of monuments.

According to the MP, the mandatory insuring will guarantee the restoration of monuments in case of disasters. Also, the level of responsibility of owners will increase. The monuments will be periodically examined so as to determine the risks and eliminate these. The costs incurred by the state will be insignificant compared to the losses that can be sustained.

Igor Himici voiced hope that the MPs of the other groups will support the given legislative proposal.
