The MPs of the Shor Party suggested that the Head of State and the ministers or mayors should be obliged to stop work after they are registered as election runners. According to them, this way all the electoral contenders will be in equal conditions, IPN reports.

In a press briefing, vice president of the Shor Party Marina Tauber said that Parliament set the presidential elections for November 1, but the electoral legislation contains a number of shortcomings. Even if the Moldovan citizens are equal before the law and the election runners have the same rights, the Election Code does not ensure equal conditions for everyone. Under the legislation, the persons should be suspended from the held post when they are registered as electoral competitors. This refers to mayors, ministers, district heads and other functionaries and local elected officials. The President of Moldova is no yet on this list.

The politician noted that the incumbent President will definitely run in this autumn’s presidential elections, but he is not obliged to temporarily leave office and this creates unequal conditions in relation to the other elections runners.

The MP also said that the monitoring reports from the previous elections show that the use of administrative resources is one of the major violations committed in election campaigns. The Head of State, if he is not suspended, will make use of the administrative resources, such as the motor pool as the President travels with a motorcade. All the costs, including those associated with campaigning, will be covered with people’s money.
