The Shor Party has been ordered by the Central Electoral Commission to pay back over 2 million lei to the State Budget. The party has 6 months to comply and can pay in installments. The CEC decision comes following a complaint from Valeriu Munteanu, Ilan Shor’s contestant in the Orhei constituency in the recent legislative elections.

The CEC found in particular that the Shor Party received more than 2 million lei from companies which in the year preceding the election carried out activities funded from the State Budget, which is against the electoral law.

In his February 20 complaint, besides the claim about donations from public contractors, Valeriu Munteanu also claimed that the Shor Party violated contribution limits, citing the party’s own financial reports officially submitted to the CEC. The election authority, however, didn’t find any violation here.

The Shor Party responded by calling the decision “yet another display of a biased attitude” from the CEC and “a result of provocations from political and electoral rivals”, and promised to appeal it in court.
