The Transnistrian leader Yevgheny Shevchuk rejected the bill to reduce the minimum voter turnout from 50% to 25%, which was voted by the so-called legislature of the Transnistrian region, IPN reports.
Yevgheny Shevchuk argued that the suppositions of the members of the Transnistrian legislative body that the voter turnout in the next elections will be low are groundless. According to him, the voter turnout in the five previous elections held in the region always exceeded the minimum turnout of 50%.
The Transnistrian leader reiterated the proposal that the minimum voter turnout should be reduced to 40%. He also suggested creating a commission that would draft a bill to overcome the existing misunderstandings.
The so-called presidential elections in Transnistria were set for December 11, 2016.
